Through the guidance program each school year, kindergarten through sixth grade students are presented with classroom lessons based on anti-bully themes of empathy, respect, conflict resolution and self-control. Students are taught the definition of bullying and the roles of bystander, target, and bully.
Students in every grade level are taught a 3-step problem-solving model to help them respond to problems they might encounter with their classmates:
STOP- ask the person to stop what they are doing
WALK- walk away or ignore the behavior
TALK-if the problem persists or danger exists, go to a grown-up for help
*If your child is experiencing a bullying situation as defined below, don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, myself, or the school principal.
Bullying- intentional written, verbal or physical act, or a series of acts directed at another student or students which occurs in a school setting that is severe, persistent or pervasive and that has the effect of substantially interfering with a student’s education, creating a threatening environment and/or substantially disrupting the orderly operation of the school.
