Dr. Carl Lund
Dr. Carl Lund became the 22nd inductee into the Muncy High School Academic Hall of Fame on May 27, 2016 at the 136th annual commencement of Muncy High School. Dr. Lund is a member of the Class of 1972.
While Carl attended high school at Muncy, he was the President of the Student Council, Vice-President of M-Club, Associate Editor of the yearbook, and Tri-Captain of the football team. Carl was also a member of the National Honor Society and the wrestling team. Carl continued his education at Purdue University graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering. He received the Bruce Wilson award at Purdue for the outstanding senior in chemical engineering. Carl received his PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1981.
Dr. Lund began his professional career as a senior engineer for Exxon at the corporate science laboratory but he quickly found his passion in teaching. Dr. Lund has been a professor at SUNY Buffalo for the past 30 years in which he has become a renowned leader, researcher, mentor, and teacher in the field of chemical engineering.
While at SUNY Buffalo, Dr. Lund has been the Chairman of the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department and has been the advisor for 15 PhD students and 21 MS students. Dr. Lund’s research has focused on using chemical engineering to solve real world problems such as waste reduction and alternative energy. His work has resulted in publishing 63 journal articles.
In 2007, Dr. Lund was recognized by the SUNY Board of Trustees as a Distinguished Teaching Professor. This is the highest faculty rank in the SUNY system and is reserved for truly outstanding teachers. In 2014, Dr. Lund was named a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, which is one of the highest honors a chemical engineer can receive. Dr. Lund’s contributions and accomplishments in the field of chemical engineering and teaching are too numerous to list, but undoubtedly, he has made Muncy proud and has made an impact on generations.
