Eric M. Clementoni
2019 Muncy High School, Academic Hall of Fame Inductee
Mr. Eric M. Clementoni was the valedictorian of the Class of 2000. He served as the Senior Class President and was a captain for both the football and baseball teams. Eric was a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council.
In 2004, Eric received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where he was awarded the Sam C. Hite Award for Outstanding Senior in Chemical Engineering. Eric also played baseball, lettered all four years in college, and earned the John Logan Award as the male athlete who achieved the highest GPA.
Eric began his professional career in November of 2004 with the Naval Nuclear Laboratory which is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy by Fluor Marine Propulsion. He is an Advisor Engineer in the Future Plant Integration and Analysis organization developing the nuclear propulsion plant design for a future submarine. Prior to his current position, Eric worked on a number of advanced development projects including the development of a nuclear power system for a NASA orbiter, the evaluation of nuclear power for Naval surface combatants beyond aircraft carriers, and the development of the supercritical carbon dioxide Brayton cycle. During his employment, Eric has been awarded a General Manager’s award in 2008, Team Achievement Awards in 2011 and 2013, and an Individual Achievement Award in 2017.
Eric is a recognized leader in the field of supercritical CO² power cycle development. He has authored two journal articles and fourteen conference papers in this field, many of which have been cited by international authors in journal and conference publications. Eric and his co-authors were awarded the 2015 Supercricital CO² Committee best paper award at ASME Turbo Expo, the leading international conference for turbine technology, research, development and application. Additionally, Eric contributed to the book “Fundamentals and Applications of Supercritical Carbon Dioxide (sCO²) Based Power Cycles” as the lead author for the chapter on supercritical Co² power cycle test facilities.
Eric’s expertise in this area has led to taking on leadership roles within international organizations and conferences. He has served as the committee chair for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Gas Turbine Segment Supercritical CO² Committee since July 2017 after serving as the committee vice-chair from July 2014 to June 2017. Eric also served as the conference co-chair for the 6th International Supercritical CO² Power Cycles Symposium held in Pittsburgh, PA, after serving on the conference organizing committee for the two previous conferences. Additionally, he will serve as the conference chair for the 7th International Supercritical CO² Power Cycles Symposium to be held in 2020 in San Antonio, TX.
