The Patricia (Drick) Lamoreaux Memorial Nursing Scholarship Award
This scholarship is established in loving memory of Patricia (Drick) Lamoreaux, by her family, and with the encouragement and support of her many friends, coworkers, and the many people she worked with in all her organizations.
Patricia was a 1975 graduate of Muncy High School. She continued her education and graduated from the Williamsport Area Community College with a Practical Nursing degree. She obtained her nursing license and began her nursing career as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Coronary Care Unit of the Williamsport Hospital. She furthered her education at The Williamsport Hospital
School of Nursing where she graduated as a proud member of the final class, in 1988, with a Registered Nursing Degree. Patricia obtained her Registered Nursing License and proudly continued to work with heart patients in the Intensive Care Unit of the Williamsport Hospital. Patricia truly loved being a nurse. Her passion was being a quality nurse and providing the best possible medical care for her patients. She took pride in her work, paid attention to detail, was very dedicated, and provided comprehensive care to her patients, their families, and coworkers. Throughout her career, Patricia won many awards for her outstanding work after being nominated by her coworkers, her patients, and the patient’s families. She was described as a “go to” person by her coworkers, as she was always willing to help and consistently provided answers to difficult questions related to patient care. She retired in March of 2020 after 44 years of service. Sadly, Patricia passed away on June 14, 2021, at the age of 64.
Patricia was active in organizations while in high school and college. As an adult, in addition to her nursing career, Patricia was a devoted Wife, Mother, Church, and Community Leader who was committed to the Muncy School District and to the Muncy Community.
She is a life-long member of the Pennsdale Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the United Methodist Women, taught Bible School, was active in the Adult Life Group, and served on nearly every board and committee in the church. Patricia was a member of the Muncy Township Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary where she served as secretary. She was president of the Pennsdale Branch of the Needlework Guild of America.
Patricia was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America. She served as a girl scout leader for Muncy Troop 263 of the Girls Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania Council. She helped several girls achieve their Gold Awards. Patricia served as President of the Organization of Parents and Teachers (O.P.T.) at Myers Elementary School and was President of the Parents, Teachers, and Students Association (P. TSA.) at the Muncy High School. She was active in the Muncy Little League and Pack 24 and Troop 25 of the Boy Scouts of America in Muncy. She was a past President of the Muncy Athletic Booster Club. Patricia was serving as the President of the Muncy Alumni Association, was an active committee member of the Muncy School District Foundation, was a proud member, board member, and historian of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), was a member of the Muncy/Hughesville Christian Ladies Group, and was an active member of the Board of Directors, Historian, and Spring Banquet Co-chair for the Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, at the time of her passing.
The Patricia (Drick) Lamoreaux Memorial Nursing Scholarship is an annual $2,000 scholarship that was established by Patricia’s family to honor a young man or woman who exemplifies hard work, leadership qualities, concern for the community as demonstrated by involvement in community service activities and is dedicated to the care and welfare of others. The person must be sincerely committed to pursuing a degree in the field of nursing.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for this award the following criteria must be met:
- A graduating senior of Muncy Jr./Sr. High School who has been accepted into and will attend a college to obtain a degree in a nursing field, LPN or RN.
- A good citizen, who has good moral character, shows concern for others, and a proven commitment to helping others.
Submission of candidates: Candidates must submit all material by the first week of April yearly to the senior counselor in the Muncy High School Guidance Office.
